Drones, Bodies, and Borders: 20 Years of Media Art with Alex Rivera
Sundance award-winning filmmaker Alex Rivera will discuss his work, reflecting on the ways in which he’s used digital imaging to illuminate the experiences of immigrant people in America. Since the mid-nineteen nineties, Rivera has been examining the ways in which two networks – one, the web of immigrant communities that crosses borders, and two, the internet that wraps around the globe – have grown in parallel and produced a new and complex trans-national reality, as well as new systems of surveillance that seek to contain and control that reality. Rivera’s award-winning work which uses tools as varied as animation, documentary cinema, and drone technology, is profound, politically charged, and playful.
